Forms I and II sang `Nursery Rhymes´, some of which have been sung in England since the Middle Ages. They also delighted parents with the enactment of these chants. Every family received the lyrics and different crafts the girls had prepared  for each song. Dad took home a bookmarker and mom some tea.

Form III´s class was about Ancient Egypt, one of the greatest civilizations of the past. Different students welcomed parents and explained where Egypt was situated, the importance of the River Nile and how many of their buildings and architectural designs are still standing today. They also enlightened us on the pharaohs, scribes and architects, as well as their famous pyramids.

As a good portion of the Old Testament takes place in and around Egypt they finally presented a play about baby Moses.

Parents were invited to read the girls writings and see their drawings and ´Show and Tells`, while having some coffee and sweets prepared by the students themselves.

As Form IV devoted the first part of the year to the Ancient Greeks, their Open Class was about them. A group of presenters told parents about this great civilization, its government, most important cities, their Olympic Games and their love for the theatre. Based on this last feature they staged a play called `Demeter and Persephone´. It was about a myth through which the Greeks explained the origin of the seasons. Hades, king of the underworld, kidnaps Persephone, queen of spring and daughter of Demeter, goddess of crops. Demeter is so angry with Hades that stops the sun from shining and crops from growing on Earth. Zeus feels pity for mortals and tries to solve the problem. His solution is for Hades and Demeter to share Persephone, Each of them will have Persephone for six months. While Persephone is with Hades the sun doesn´t shine on earth, it is autumn and winter. Yet when Demeter has Persephone with her, the sun shines and everything grows again, the two seasons being spring and summer.

Parents were then welcomed to see crafts done by the students and to enjoy some `Ambrosia´, fruit of the gods and a glass of Coke.

Last but actually first Form VI proudly presented their Open Class on Wednesday 7th September. Their presentation was divided into three acts representing three main topics studied in History by them: The Middle Ages, The Wars of the Roses and Henry VIII. The first act consisted in an enactment of everyday life in the Middle Ages, two narrators described the scene depicted by silent actresses. The War of the Roses came to life through a mini-play in which Lancasters and Yorks fought for England´s throne wihout escaping from battles, death plots and family treasons, quite a lively age to stage. The third and final act was a mini-musical about Henry VIII and his six wives. The class modified the lyrics of the song ´Cruella De Vil` from the film ´101 Dalmatians`, to reveal the polemical family life of this Tudor king. As a souvenir, each family received some medieval cookies with a printed Tudor rose as a reminder of the lovely morning we had spent together.
